This is our first observation of a deep space object, M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy. Thought it's 32 Mly distant, it has an  apparent magnitude of 8.4. Even with a setup designed for photometry, this object is a delight to photograph. Five  f/6.3 10s exposures stacked and processed with AIP4WIN.
